BREAKING: Samsung planning to build a social network like 'Facebook'

Samsung's got their line of smart products in almost all categories including cameras, smartphones, televisions, blu-rays,etc. What do you do next to expand these services and create a unified experience? You launch a social network to connect these services. Samsung is just doing that, according to The Korea Times. The officials from Samsung also said that the site will be available by the first quarter of next year. 

The project is literally codenamed as 'Samsung Facebook'. The company has yet to decide on a name for the service. Samsung had already tried their hands at creating a social networking service with the current Family Story app which is more about sharing photos, events and messaging. They aim to develop a social networking service which will eventually compete with Facebook. For allowing users to use this service from anywhere and on any device, Samsung plans to integrate it with Amazon’s cloud computing platform.

Sony unveils Xperia Miro, Xperia Tipo and Tipo dual, all three run on Android 4.0 ICS

Sony has just announced three new Android 4.0 ICS based smartphones, namely Xperia Miro, Xperia Tipo and Xperia Tipo dual. The last one is company's first ever dual sim device. There are no pricing details or launch dates available yet. But we expect them to be priced in the 15k range. Let's have a look at the specs for these three droids.

Nokia finally launches 808 PureView in India at Rs.33,899

Two weeks back, Nokia had set a countdown timer for a June 5th launch, which did not happen. But now finally the much-hyped Nokia 808 PureView withholding its huge 41-megapixel snapper is finally getting an Indian launch today. It has been priced at Rs.33,899. This directly puts the phone in the plus 30K price range, competing with HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III. 


The 41-megapixel sensor comes with Carl Zeiss optics along with a Xenon flash and a LED one, acting as a video light. The images taken by this sensor collects data from seven adjacent pixels and condenses it into one. The largest resolution that can be shot is 38 megapixels in 4:3 aspect ratio and 34 megapixels in 16:9 mode. It is also capable of capturing 3 MP, 5 MP, 8 MP, 38 MP snaps at 4:3 aspect ratio and 2 MP, 5 MP, 8 MP, 34 MP at 16:9 aspect ratio. 


Video recording is obviously FullHD 1080p at 30 fps and there's also 720p@30fps. It also supports 4x zoom in 1080p and 6x in 720p. Stereo sound recording is present here. 


It has a 16:9 4" AMOLED display of nHD (640 x 360) resolution covered with curved Gorilla Glass. Running on the latest Nokia Belle OS, it has been powered by a single-core 1.3Ghz processor and 512MB RAM. 16GB of on-board storage, Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth 3.0 are loaded in.

All-new Hyundai Elantra could be here by September, To cost between Rs 12-16 lakh

The 3rd generation Elantra, launched nearly a decade ago, never really took off in the Indian market. The car failed to strike the right cords with buyers due to which the sales were rather dismal. Hyundai though, is looking to change that with the latest-gen Elantra which may make a comeback this September. 

This time around, the Elantra features Hyundai’s trademark Fluidic design treatment which has worked wonders for the Verna and the latest Sonata. Also, unlike the i10 and the i20, the design looks sleek and is balanced at the same time without being much of an overkill. The story is no different on the inside either. The interior design is equally impressive and is a far cry from the odd layout found in the previous Elantra. Like every other Hyundai on sale today, the new Elantra packs in quite a list of features of which 6 airbags, ESP, traction control, Bluetooth-ready audio system, climate control and some more features are to be expected as standard.   

Engine options are likely to be a pair of 1.8-litre units – the petrol-powered Elantra will come with 1.8-litre, 148PS engine while the diesel version will get a 1.8-litre common rail diesel engine. Both the engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual and probably, a 6-speed automatic gearbox as well. 

Hyundai has been absent from the D-segment since the 2007, when they phased out the Elantra, which was imported back then. This time however this feature loaded car will be assembled here to compete with the likes of Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Laura, Toyota Corolla and VW Jetta.

Mahindra working on petrol-powered and automatic versions of the XUV 500

Mahindra is said to be developing a range of new versions of its popular global crossover, the XUV 500. Confirming the news, Mr Ruzbeh Irani, Chief Executive Officer of International Operations at Mahindra, said that M&M has started working on a petrol-powered XUV 500 and an automatic gearbox for the same. 

However, there are no plans to bring the petrol-powered XUV 500 to our shores owing to the fact that here in India, petrol-powered SUVs are deemed plain gas guzzlers and there’s no real demand for them whatsoever. The petrol version instead will be sold in other markets worldwide, probably in the US and Australia where demand for petrol is as high as diesel, or even more than the latter. The XUV 500 currently comes with a reworked 2.2-litre diesel engine from the Scorpio and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. 

As for the automatic version, Mahindra is presently working on the gearbox, which is expected to be up and running with some of the modern units in terms of technology. However, the launch is still a good two years away before we get our hands on it.

BMW will reveal its first ever front wheel drive car at the Paris Motor Show

If there's one thing that's certain in this world, it's that BMWs are driven by their rear wheels. Sure, there are some all-wheel-drive models thrown in for good measure, but even those revert to the tried-and-true RWD when extra traction from the front wheels isn't deemed necessary or desirable. Now though, the universe is really changing as BMW will finally walk down the path that they have renounced for years. 

The German premium carmaker will finally debut its first front-wheel-drive car at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, in September. To stay in competition and build cost effective entry-level cars, the company will follow others down this trail, also creating reliable platform for new models of Mini.

The concept is expected to be called the BMW 1 Series GT and will be powered by 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which is more like half of BMW’s 3.0-litre straight six. The engine will also be used for the new Mini models, while the front-wheel drive will rival the Mercedes-Benz B Class.

BMW is expected to launch this new 1 Series by 2014 and it will then become the cheapest offering from the German carmaker. Looking at X1 success, BMW will certain plan to bring this to India, only they will need to have a diesel option by then.

Apple announces iOS 6: Siri updated, full Facebook integration and more

Apple has just officially announced the next version of their mobile operating system aka iOS 6. Among the claimed 200 new features, Siri gets the biggest update. The personal-assitant app can now launch apps just as you call out the name of the app and it'll open. Now it will also support sports like informing you about scores and statistics. There's more support added like restaurant selections, movie information through Rotten Tomatoes integration. 

The long-awaited Facebook integration into iOS6 is finally here. One will be able to have full integration of Facebook in their calendars, contacts, iCal, photos, maps, websites, etc. Aha! Facebook's 'Like' button also gets fully integrated into the App Store and iTunes Store, thus helping you decide which app or song your friends are liking. 


As rumored, Apple with iOS 6 has replaced Google Maps and is introducing their own 3D maps with turn-by-turn navigation and anonymous traffic updates.


Another feature being added will be "Do Not Disturb" mode that will allow you to completely turn off incoming calls and messages. You'll receive them but the screen won't light up or there will be no ringtone.

Apple reveals new-generation Macbook Pro with Retina Display

Apple just revealed the next-generation Macbook Pro. But wait it has the eye-popping Retina Diaply on it's 15" screen. This display packs a 2880 x 1800 resolution which adds up to 220ppi. The company has already updated all of their stock apps to be compatible with the new resolution. This new display makes the Macbook Pro world's highest resolution notebook.


The outside is awesome, but the inside is powerful too. The new Mackbook Pro will come with a 2.7Ghz quad-core Intel i5 or i7 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia Kepler GeForce GT 650M GPU. It's offering a maximum 768GB SSD storage. 


Apple has removed the optical drive on this one to make it only 0.71 inches thick and it weighs only 4.46 pounds. They are claiming a 7hours battery life. Connectivity options 802.11n for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Apple announces new Macbook Air models with Intel Ivy Bridge processors, shipping today!

Live from WWDC, Apple has just announced all new 11-inch and 13-inch Macbook Air models. 


The 11-inch model ($999) will boast a 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB of RAM. It will come with Intel HD 4000 graphics, 64GB flash storage while a higher model for $1099 will contain 128GB of flash storage. Apple claims 5 hours of battery life.  


The 13-inch models ($1,199) will  boast a 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor and same amount of RAM with same graphics as of the 11-inch model. It will come with 128GB of storage. The higher model priced at $1499 will come with doubled storage i.e. 256GB of storage.
