Lockout Come's up with 5 minutes Prologue

If you love the TV Series Prison Break then you have yourself in for a treat. The movie Lockout which is up for release on this friday is a whole new level of Prison Break, more like Space Prison Break. Actor Guy Pearce who found his fame from the movie Memento directed by Christopher Nolan is out to prove his worth as a true action star.

Just couple of days away from the release date the Europa Corp. decided to release a 5 minute clip of the start of the movie. The movie is directed by James MatherStephen St. Leger & also stars Maggie Grace (Taken).

The plot of the movie is based in future year 2079 where in Guy Pearce, a man wrongly convicted is offered freedom if he rescues the President's daughter (Maggie Grace) who is stuck in a prison up in the space. The 5 minute prologue serves really well as appetizer, Main course will be served on the release date 13th April 2012 (USA).

It is not confirmed if the movie will release for our Indian fans. But you never know. Until then courtesy EW, enjoy the clip.

Rowdy Rathore is spreading Rowdy

Rowdy Rathore, an upcoming film by Prabhu Deva is the remake of south film Vikramarkudu. This is Prabhu Deva's second directorial venture after Wanted, which is also a remake of a Telugu film Pokiri and was the biggest hit of the year. He also directed the Tamil version with the same movie. This movie is produced by Sanjay Leela Bansali & UTV Motion Pictures.

The first look of the film was launched in BDD Chawl grounds Worli recently. Good amount of local crowd had gathered to witness the occasion. Akshay Kumar (Housefull 2plays an IPS officer in the film & it required him to learn special technique combat karate. As we all know Akhsay has a background of martial arts training, I am sure that must have come handy. Sonakshi Sinha (Dabangg) plays opposite Akshay Kumar in the film. Surprisingly the gathered crowd was more happy to see Prabhu Deva compared to Akshay.

But that is not the news. News is that the first theatrical trailer of the film has already gone viral on Youtube. In just few days of the release of the trailer, it has already gathered 7 lakh plus hits & still counting (1 lakh is 100,000). The movie reminds us of Wanted, not for it being from the same director but the action sequence & high use of CG, basically the whole look & feel.

Will this film roll the numbers in BO like Wanted? Only time will tell. Until then here is the trailer of the film. Enjoy!

Teri Meri Kahaani: Rip off or Inspired?

When we go for movies, the first thing we are made to see is that 'This film is pure work of fiction & any similarities is purely coincidental'. Well I agree to statement BUT is Bollywood sticking up to it or is it just a mandatory statement & does not hold a meaning.

The point is, Director Kunal Kohli's 'Teri Meri Kahaani' starring Shahid Kapoor & Priyanka Chopra has already found troubled waters. The film looks a lot like Taiwanese film 'Three Times'. 'Teri Meri Kahaani' story revolves around two lovers who keep meeting in three timelines 1910, 1960 & 2012 more like re-carnation story & just like Three Times which is also based on three timelines 1911, 1966 and 2005.
Taiwanese film 'Three Times' released in 2005 & had been nominated for Cannes Film Festival.

To all of which Kunal Kohli has no clue about the film 'Three Times' & he comments that 'any similarities is pure co-incidental'.

Anyways I will give you both the trailers & let you be judge of 'is it inspired? or rip off? or co-incidental? like Kohli says.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga to launch on April 12

credit

The Ertiga - Maruti’s first shot at the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) market, made its world debut at the Auto Expo held in January.

This latest model, which will go on sale on April 12, is the first compact MPV in its class. At 4.26m length, it’s much longer than the Swift (the MPV is based on the new Swift’s platform) the benefit of extended wheelbase means you also get third row of seats – the Ertiga comes with seating for 7 passengers in a 2+3+2 layout. When it comes to looks, this compact MPV is a mixed-bag of Suzuki’s styling cues. The Ertiga shares the look with its hatchback siblings; the swept-back headlamps come from the Swift while the rest of the design is similar to the Ritz.

READ Maruti Suzuki Ertiga's review here
The dash, for instance, is lifted off the new Swift. However, the interior plastics have been given a beige treatment, which makes them look a lot more desirable compared to the Swift’s all-black interior.

With folding individual seats on the middle and last row to give away more boot space; the whole cabin itself is spacious and quite flexible. Feature list includes - steering-mounted audio controls, keyless entry, MID (multi-information display), central locking, stereo with USB compatibility and much more.

In the engine department, the Ertiga is powered by an all-new K-Series engine. This 1.4-litre petrol unit makes 94bhp @6000rpm and 13.2kgm of torque @4000rpm. Also on offer will be the SX4-sourced 1.3-litre Super Turbo DDiS diesel engine which produces 88 bhp @4000 rpm and 20.4 kgm @1750rpm. Fuel efficiency is a claimed 16 kmpl and 21 kmpl for the petrol and diesel models respectively.

We expect the Ertiga to be offered in the usual Lxi/Vxi/Zxi and Ldi/Vdi/Zdi levels of trim. Prices for this impressive compact-MPV will be announced at the time of launch though we reckon it would be in the region of Rs 6-9 Lakh.

HTC officially launches the One X and One V in India

HTC

Revealed back at MWC, HTC's new one series bagged in a lot of attention and appraisal from everyone. Finally, the One X and One V have now officially made it to India. For those wondering about the mid-budget model One S, it is still set to come next month.

HTC One X India
The HTC One X is the smartphone you should be buying right now. The immensely fast quad-core (plus one) Tegra 3 processor built by Nvidia, clocked in at 1.5GHz is placed inside a solid yet beautifully designed polycarbonate unibody that withholds a huge 4.7-inch Super LCD panel on the front to give your eyes a visual delight, all thanks to the display's 720p HD resolution and a pixel density of 316ppi. To top all that HTC is introducing an extra processor called ImageChip coupled with ImageSense technology to boost the rear 8-megapixel backside-illuminated camera sensor, a wide aperture f/2.0 autofocus lens, 5fps burst mode, 1080p HD video recording and as well as an 1.3MP 720p HD front-facing camera. Tempted already? Even we are. All the connectivity options are bundled in, including NFC and the One X carries a 1800mAh battery. It will be available in Polar White and Glamour Grey colors.

On the other hand, the lower-end model HTC One V comes in with a 3.7-inch 800x480 pixel display and to power it, a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon S2 processor coupled with 512MB of RAM is built in. A 5MP 720p HD autofocus camera with an f/2.0 lens but no front-facing camera has been included. The One V is available in 'Jupiter Rock' color and packs in a 1500mAh battery.

HTC One V India

Both the One X and One V bring with themselves a marriage of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC's now lighter version - Sense 4.0 UI to deliver a perfect experience. Also in common is the Beats Audio technology which we hope would bring about significant improvement in sound quality this time.

HTC does the great job of providing immense storage capacity with the One X coming out with a 32GB internal memory and One V 4GB. But why I mentioned immense is that you get an extra 25GB worth of Dropbox online storage with the One series alongside a free 2 year subscription.

While the specifications may sound interesting, HTC has also partnered with Bharti Airtel to offer free download of 100 full songs, 500 MB data for three months and 200 minutes of Mobile TV. The offer is valid till June 30 for all Airtel users who buy any device from the One Series.

Although the two popped up in online stores and few retail outlets, they have received official launches now, with the One X getting a hefty MRP of Rs.42,999 and the lower-end model One V gets MRP of Rs. 19,999. But we expect you'll get them in stores roughly at Rs.37,899 and Rs. 18,299 respectively.

If you're thinking of buying a smartphone right now, then One X is the right choice. We are tempted just like you and trying our best to get the device for a full review.

Shahrukh Khan in Biopic of Dhyan Chand

Word is, makers of a biopic are trying to rope in Shahrukh Khan (Don 2) in yet another hockey film but this time it will be him in action. Shahrukh Khan who played the role of a hockey coach for a girl's team in Chak De India will soon bag a role wherein he himself will play the legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand. We recently had Paan Singh Tomar played by Irrfan Khan & soon going to release Bhaag Milkha Bhaag wherein Farhan Akhtar is playing the role of Milkha Singh.

Picking up a biopic & making a movie on it seems to be the new safe game picked up by Bollywood. Apparently there are rumours, others stars are also looking forward to bag the role of Dhyan Singh. I will let you know if anything comes up. Stay tuned.

Sony cutting 10,000 jobs by year-end

credit

A lot is changing in and out at Sony as the new CEO Kazuo Hirai is responsible to overcome the 220 billion yen net loss for the fiscal year that just ended. The next step he's about to take is cut 10,000 jobs, or about 6 percent of its global workforce, by as early as the year-end. Sony may also request that its seven executive directors who served through the fiscal year to March, return their bonuses.

Out of these 10,000 job-cuts, 5000 of the workers will be cut due to the restructuring of Sony's small and medium LCD businesses and the another 5,000 domestic and international cuts will be made by year end. It's unclear how many of the cuts would take place in Japan or overseas.

Last month the company announced restructuring of their entire corporation and decided to focus more on growing mobile market rather than bear huge losses in their TV business. Hirai is set to brief on the company's business plan on Thursday.

Hunger Games Still Hungry

Katniss is still shooting arrows & they all are hitting the bullseye. Hunger Games is practically ruling over the box office. Its been only seventeen days since the movie has released & it has already scored $300 million plus in box office. If accounted of domestic & overseas the movie crosses the mark of $400 million. Director Gary Ross is happy with his movie's success, but it is skeptical of whether he will shoot the sequel to the movie 'Catching Fire'.

Apparently Hunger Games has also taken over this weekend's revenue by keeping American Reunion one spot below it with Titanic 3D a spot below that. Wrath of the Titans did not see a great earnings. Surprisingly Safe House is still keeping its spot on the top ten by being the oldest movie released. Courtesy Hollywood Reporter, below are the domestic earnings of the top ten movies of the weekend.
Domestic Box Office, April 6-April 8
Title/Weeks in release/Theater count, Studio/Three-day weekend total/Cume
1. The Hunger Games, 3/4,137, Lionsgate, $33.5 million, $302.8 million.
2. American Reunion, 1/3,191, Universal/Relativity, $21.5 million.
3. Titanic 3D, 1/2,674, Paramount/Fox, $17.4 million, $25.7 million.
4. Wrath of the Titans, 2/3,545, Warners/Legendary, $15 million, $58.9 million.
5. Mirror Mirror, 2/3,618, Relativity, $11 million, $36.5 million.
6. 21 Jump Street, 4/3,009, Sony/MGM, $10.2 million, $109.6 million.
7. Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, 6/2,994, Universal/Illumination, $5 million, $198.2 million.
8. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, 5/524, CBS Films, $975K million, $4.6 million.
9. John Carter, 5/1,015, Disney, $829K million, $68 million.
10. Safe House, 9/480, Universal,  $581K, $124.8 million.

Dark Knight Rises in Hongkong

Christopher Nolan's final installment of the superhero franchise Dark Knight Rises is creating a lot of buzz. The wait for this sequel is simply getting unbearable, thanks to the people handling the promotions of the movie. The latest news in is that Dark Knight Rises has been rated PG-13 by MPAA. Not a surprise because the previous Dark Knight movies also got the same rating.

The movie is just couple of months away from release. Unlike some films that get released in North America and then months later around the world, Warner Bros. has set up a massive worldwide campaign with 35 territories getting the film between July 19 and July 28, including the United States, Japan, Australia, Europe and every major country in between. While a lot of box office records have been broken in the last year, I think it’s safe to assume The Dark Knight Rises is going to take them all back.

We have to say that the promotion team of Warner Bros. is doing a real good job. At first feeding us with the teaser so small but enough to create the stir & then coming up with a clip of the movie only shown in IMAX on & before Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol shows. If you are wondering why am I running around this thing, it's because they have done it again. A bus in Hongkong has been plastered with the official teaser poster of Dark Knight Rises.

Here are some stills of that bus & happy curiosity.

Movie releases on 20th of July 2012 in India.

Michael Bay bringing us 'Pain and Gain'

Michael Bay, a Director who gifted us with films like the Transformers Trilogy & Bad Boys is already in production with his next venture 'Pain & Gain'.  It is going to be another action-thriller drama. It stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson ( Fast Five) & Mark Wahlberg ( The Fighter). It is based on Fargo-esque true story of two bodybuilders who got caught up in an extortion ring & kidnapping scheme that went terribly wrong. Courtesy Collider I am able to give you some of the stills from the set. From the looks it seems both the actors have beefed up to give a tough look to their characters.

Housefull 2: The Dirty Dozen have got it going

Bring together four of the successful stars of the past, four of them of the present, two of them who have just tasted success & two of them who want to be successful by being in this movie & you have yourself a movie called Housefull 2.  A comedy written & produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. Direction is by Sajid Khan who made the prequel Housefull & enjoyed a good share of success.

The movie is a Hit as per figures tweeted by Taran Adarsh. Now why does that not surprise me. The movie has a star cast where in each one of them has a great amount of fan base, so its kind of obvious. On the opening day movie collected 14 Cr. ( 10 Cr is equal to 1 billion) & Next day  13.5 Cr. This makes it the second best opening of the year after Dharma Production's Agneepath. Sajid Khan surely is smiling. He also gave out the following figures as you can see below in the tweet.
After making the prequel Housefull, Sajid Khan was quick on his decision to make a sequel to it & franchise the movie. His decision has clearly served him well.

Out-of-nowhere-news: After this movie Akshay Kumar has decided to stop doing comedy (take a sigh of relief & continue reading). The movie is an out-an-out comedy, so do not expect for it to have any story or try to find any sense in it just like we did in Housefull. If you hold an appetite for such a movie I suggest you make a run for it.

Love your siblings? Must watch this Documentary

'Bully' the word itself explains a lot. It's a documentary/movie that showcases the effect of bullying on five school children's & their families. It's an element of sophisticated & sensitive nature.

Weinstein company decided to produce this documentary/movie with a hope that it might bring up a positive change in the society. Since being a documentary, some contents might be of disturbing nature.

A film of that nature would not be easy to release so the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) & Weinstein Co. went under a heated battle for the rating MPAA had given to the film. MPAA gave 'R' rating to the movie (Restricted: under 17 requires accompanying adult or guardian) which did not seem fair for this documentary. But 'Bully' did not fall back, it scored a solid $23,294 per-screen average at five domestic locations & a total $116,472 three-day take. Weinstein also launched an un-rated pic which is a risk as it is then considered as NC-17 (No child under 17 can watch the film).

Then, in an unusual move, on April 5 Weinstein announced that "aided by the guidance" of attorneys David Boies and Ted Olson, MPAA had lowered the R rating to a PG-13 (some material may be inappropriate for children under 13), just in time for the film's April 13 expansion to 55 markets.

"It's a tough subject," admits Weinstein distribution head Erik Lomis, "but for the most part, people stood up and recognized that this is a picture that deserves to be seen."

The film, when rated R, played best to teen audience, with 91% rating the film highly. And while 18-and-under audience repped only 10% of the bow, Lomis says any positive reaction among teens is encouraging.

The MPAA made an exception by allowing a film to be re-rated before the usual 90-day period required for such a change. I say Bravo! Weinstein Co.

Here is the promo.

This documentary will be worth every second. Film releases on 13th April 2012 (USA).

Salman Khan ready to rule on Eid & Christmas

After lot of unWANTED controversies & all the unnecessary DABANGG news revolving around it's sequel, it is finally known that Salman Khan's much anticipated film Dabangg 2 is going to release in Christmas.

We know that Salman Khan starer films like Wanted, Dabangg and Bodyguard were released on Eid as he himself prefers that his films should be released on such an auspicious day. Unfortunately (personally I think it is fortunate) this time around things are not in his favour but not entirely. Salman's film Ek Tha Tiger under the banner of Yash Raj Films will be released on Eid. So it is likely to understand that there is no point releasing two films of his on the same day & putting the audience under the dilemma. The smart decision was taken & it is now declared that Dabangg 2 will be released on Christmas.

To add up I have found that Salman will also be doing an item number in the film Dabangg 2.

Hop on & take 'Ferrari Ki Sawaari'

The much awaited Bollywood film of the year is finally here. From the production house of Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films (VVC) that got us the hilarious comedy-drama like Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. & 3 Idiots, here comes 'Ferrari ki Sawari'. We all know that VVC films produces films which are born hit. Now lets take a look at this one.

The official poster of the film.

The film casts Sharman Joshi (3 Idiots), Boman Irani (Don 2) & I am not really sure of who is the kid though he somewhat looks like Partho Gupte (son of Amole Gupte).

The story revolves around a father who believes in fair & simple life & wants to teach the same ideals to his son. Unlike his son has big dreams of becoming the best cricketer in the world, so the father (Sharman Joshi) decides he would do anything to make his son's dreams come true. Apart from this, the movie also has an item song (seems like its a trend that is going on in Bollywood at the moment & I only hope for it to end soon) featuring Vidya Balan (Kahaani).

Question remains, In amidst all of this where does the Ferrari come in? Well that is for you to decide after you watch the trailer.

The trailer says coming soon but I have learned that film might be releasing on 27th of April 2012.

Literally 'HIGH' School

Ingredients for a sex-comedy: Couple of hot chicks, series of practical jokes that we literally can not think of doing in real life, one crazy friend, little or more of smoke up depends on what the script demands, broken pieces of comedy gathered from other sex-com films & finally a love story that will come out of no-where & of course a bad guy everybody is scared of messing with.

Even though we know all of this but once in a while a movie like this comes up & we want to see it. And what could be a better time for it then Summer. Well by the time Indian audience will be able to see it, it would be winter. Anyways the agenda is that the movie HIGH School is just around the corner. Nope, it has nothing to do with High School musical. High School is a movie where in the word HIGH is suppose to be taken in a literal sense.

Two friends have just discovered what smoking up feels like & now they do it very often. A school principal in fear that the school might be leading in a wrong direction decides to held an inspection day for students medical check up. Fearing (which is the nerd guy out of two friends) that he might be expelled from school, his friend comes up with an idea. The idea is to get the entire school high & then the fun begins.

Somehow the script had managed to get to strong characters Adrien Brody (The Pianist) & Colin Hanks (son of Tom Hanks). The rest of the star cast is either new or unknown. In my opinion the trailer works, creates the sparks because the fresh casting brings in fresh look to the film. Check it out yourself & be the judge.

The film is an Official selection of the Sundance Festival. It releases on 1st June 2012 (USA). Worldwide TBC.
