Refreshed and Improved - Tata Nano 2012 is here!

The outgoing Nano was launched in 2009. And in just a couple of years’ time, we have the updated Nano already hitting Tata’s dealerships. There’s been a whole raft of changes made to the car; Visually as well as Mechanically.
When it comes to the exterior, this little wonder now comes in 10 color shades, Papaya Orange, Mojito Green (Eh?!), Rouge Red – To name a few. Other additions include a new wheel-cap design and a much needed left-side rearview Mirror on the LX and CX trim. On the inside, a new beige treatment has been given to the interiors along with a new seat trim for the top-end variant.

Mechanically, quite a few changes have been made. The 2-cylinder, 634cc motor now churns out 37Bhp (as opposed to 35bhp) of power and 5.2kgm of Torque (earlier 4.8Kgm) Apart from the added power, the Nano 2012 also promises to be more fuel-efficient than the outgoing Nano. Tata claims a fuel efficiency figure of 25.4kmpl, which makes it quite easy on your wallet. The other thing that will put a smile on your face is the fact that prices remain unchanged despite the whole makeover. The Standard Nano costs Rs 1.4lakh, while the CX variant is priced at Rs 1.7lakh and the top-end LX trim goes for Rs 1.96lakh (all prices Ex-showroom, Delhi).

After the launch of HTC Rhyme for the Indian Market, the Taiwanese mobile manufacturer introduced the Sensation XE. This powerhouse smartphone comes packed in with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and has received a price tag of Rs.34,000. An update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is expected by year's end.

The phone has been much hyped globally as it carries the beats audio logo at it's back. HTC has got into a partnership with beats audio with the aim of providing better sound quality for its customers. This model is an upgraded version of the HTC Sensation

It cannot be called as an exaggeration if I call this phone a POWERHOUSE of speed with the right cold red blooded bold looks. A whopping 1.5Ghz Dual Core Processor will justisy my exaggeration of calling it a powerhouse. Further, the 8MP camera capable of shooting at 1080p@30fps will surely awake the film-maker in you. And features like Geo-tagging, touch-focus, image stabilization, face detection, instant capture are all loaded in.

Best New Features in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich [VIDEO]

Before you start reading about the new features, read everything about Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and the launch of Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Multi-tasking

Multi-tasking has been one of Android’s major competitive advantages over iOS. It took iOS years before it even incorporated a limtied form of multi-tasking, and Android 4.0 improves even more on Android’s multi-tasking system, making it easy to use multiple applications in the same time and switch between them.

Widgets

Another main advantage of Android over iOS has always been the availability of widgets, which allow you to see a lot more information at a glance on your home screen. Android 4.0 brings expandable widgets that can become as large as you want them to be, and you can also interact with them without entering the application.

Face Unlock

Face Unlock is a unique feature to Android, and it brings the convenience of opening your phone just by looking at it. It’s not the most secure method to lock your phone in the world, but unless someone has your picture and plans on stealing your phone, you should have nothing to worry about. Plus, it’s something cool to show your friends.

Panorama Mode

Panorama modes have existed before in other 3rd party apps, but it’s always been kind of a pain to use, because you had to match the sides of the pictures. Android 4.0 brings a new way of taking panorama pictures, by simply gliding your phone in the air, and letting the software handle the photo stitching to create your panorama.

Android Beam

Android Beam feature takes advantage of NFC technology to allow phones to communicate with each other and send each other different information, like contact info, links, and so on.

November is back. So is the Autocar Performance Show!

It’s the time of the year when Petrol-heads are greeted by the holy sight of big, screaming, tyre-shredding monsters on wheels; A place where the topic of discussion is nothing but Automobiles. Over the years, we have seen some of the meanest machines on earth - Ferraris, Lambos, Aston Martin, the lot. The Autocar Performance Show is not any ordinary show for the usual (and boring) A-to-B cars, and the 2011 edition promises to be even more mental by the looks of things.

We were there to witness the action and to bring you back a sampling of what the show has to offer.

The Autocar Performance Show is ON!  At the MMRDA Grounds of Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex. Gates are open until Sunday at 8:00pm.

Skoda drives in Rapid at Rs 6.75Lakh!

Skoda’s newest offering, the Rapid, has interestingly, been around on our roads for quite a while. What’s more, my uncle owns one already! Now before any confusion sets in, let me clear this up, it’s the Volkswagen Vento that I’m talking about. And the new Rapid, is just that – a Vento with a Skoda badge stuck onto it. But before you raise an eyebrow at this one, take note: the Rapid costs a tad less than the VW and the idea of getting a brand new Vento for less money isn’t that bad of a deal, is it?

Despite being styled around the platform of a VW Vento, the Rapid is a true Skoda in the making, and this becomes amply clear with the ‘family’ look given to this car. The headlights, fog lamps and grille come from the Fabia hatch; the only redesigned bits here are the new hood and the mildly altered chin. At the back, the design changes have been restricted to a redesigned bumper and detailing on the tail lamps.

On the inside, the interior is an amalgam of Skoda and VW design bits, all rolled onto a single dash. The air vents, climate control and other buttons come from VW, while the steering wheel and audio system, with its big font and graphics, is clearly Skoda.

Under the hood
The Rapid comes with a choice of two Engine options – the 1.6 MPI Petrol (with the optional 6-speed Auto ‘box) and the 1.6 TDI Diesel. At 105bhp, both units churn out same amount of power, however, the Torque difference is massive; with the TDI putting out 250nm @1500-2500rpm and the Petrol making 150nm at around 3800rpm.

There are three trim levels to choose from; base-spec Active, Ambition and top-spec Elegance – and the choice, as usual, rely on how deep your pockets are. In all, the Rapid seems like a good deal and could well be a fast-paced contender in the current crop of premium sedans here in India.

Price list of all the variants (Ex-showroom Delhi)
Petrol
Active- Rs. 6.75lakh
Ambition- Rs 7.09lakh
Elegance- Rs 7.99lakh
Ambition Automatic- Rs 8.09lakh
Elegance Automatic- Rs 8.99lakh

Diesel
Active- Rs 7.95lakh
Ambition- Rs 8.29lakh
Elegance- Rs 9.19lakh

New Android event by Google coming on November 16th

I just read from Engadget that Google has organised an Android-themed event next week, with little more than the words "These Go to Eleven" right up top -- a reference to a phrase from the 1984 mockumentary This is Spinal Tap. To top things off, the email came from "Nigel Tufnel," Christopher Guest's character from the film.

The event kicks off in Los Angeles at 2PM local time (that's around 5.30AM for India) on Wednesday, November 16th. You will be able to catch the livestream at YouTube.com/Android. It's good to know that Google will be allowing a LIVE event as opposed to previous no video shooting allowed events. Stay tuned to know more.
